4 Crazy High Sites in China not for the Acrophobic!

By Brittany Dismuke, on January 17, 2019

For some of us, nothing gets your blood pumping quite like at the sight of a tall cliff. Instead of running screaming in the opposite direction, these people move closer to the edge than probably reasonably safe and get that perfect shot. If you are one of these people, you will love these next 4 crazy high sites in China. For anyone who got sick reading the above, you may discontinue reading or make note as sites to specifically avoid on your visit to China, many of these sites don’t offer a lot of room for turning around.

1. ZHANGJIAJIE GLASS BRIDGE  - Zhangjiajie Shi, China

          Height: 984 ft

Length: 1,410 ft

This bridge opened in August 2016 purely as a tourist attraction. Dangle on this transparent bridge made up of 120 glass panels on a metal frame with 499 of your fellow humans for Instagram shots or taking in the awesome natural views of the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park. Tickets for the bridge must be purchased in advance, and foreign visitors can only book through a travel agency.

2. TIANMEN SKYWALK - Zhangjiajie, China

Height: 4,700 ft

The Tianmen Skywalk is built on the side of the Tianmen or “Heavenly Gate” Mountain, offering a different view of the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park. This see-through skywalk is just three and a half feet wide, giving you the feeling of walking amongst the heavens themselves.

3. GREAT WALL OF CHINA SLIDE - Beijing, China

Looking to add a little thrill to your visit to the Great Wall of China? Look no further than the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall where visitors can arrive to the top in any one of the traditional ways but arrive to the bottom via an over 5,000-foot-long toboggan ride. Get a taste of the experience in the video above!

4. HAOHAN QIAO - Yueyang, China

Height: 590 ft
Length: 980 ft

Called the “Braveman’s Bridge” by locals, the 590 ft high bridge had its wooden slats replaced with glass panels in 2014, making its crossing even more of a crossing for those who want their hearts to skip a few beats. This bridge gives more views of China that are breathtaking in more ways than one, and plenty to make into postcards to send home.

From glass bridges to toboggans, these sites in China are not for the faint of heart, but the landscapes and experiences they provide are one-of-a-kind.
